2010 Movies

Well, firstly I'd like to welcome you to my blog -one of my new year's resolution's will be to update regularly- but now, I guess I'll be starting the show with my 2010 awards! *Mini party*

BEST VISUALS - Avatar.
It must be said, aside it being released in the UK last December; the movie pretty much owned the screens for the first half of the year. The plot was pretty basic and if you'd taken away the CGI and 3D, it would have been just like any other "heroes journey" movie with a bit of symbolism thrown in there. That said it did show us some seriously breathtaking scenes emphasising the beauty of mother nature etc.

MOST OVER RATED FILM - Eclipse

Ok, ok I'll admit I was dragged along -not reluctantly- to  see it three times. That was purely because of Jackson Rathbone and his texas accent, if I were to cut that out - I, a 15 year old girl, would even throw up at the thought of the movie. It was to say the least, better than the previous films. If it wasn't for the crazy cult following this (including a couple of my friends) franchise, it would have been kicked and fought out the back door and banned from the cinema. But the cries of "OH MY EDWARD" managed to make the film $456 million worldwide. Seriously the most over rated film of 2010.

Best Comic Book Movie- Kick-Ass

2010 was the year of the comic book meets the big-screen films (not that I'm complaining). I was torn between Iron Man 2 ($622m) and Kick-Ass ($96m). Both are respectable plots and characters, but both are completely different in terms of the point of the film. On one hand, Iron Man 2 is the sequel of a box office success, about a superhero, while Kick- Ass is purely mocking movies like Iron Man 2 and Batman, but with a serious tone of realism, that this is what would happen if someone was as crazy as to try and become a superhero. Huge budget vs. Small budget I think Kick- Ass wins for the brilliant script and individuality. It also proves you don't need a 5 Billion budget to create a good movie - all you need is talent, patience and perseverance.

BEST ACTION FILM- The A-Team

I love a whole movie of explosions, guns and pure action, so I was pretty content to find that 2010 was the year which just kept throwing the man's man's movies at us. The A-Team wins hands down for this one, I did enjoy Bradley Cooper as the faceman, and the one liner's were simply brilliant!

BEST FIGHT SCENE - Arthur's Corridor Tumble in INCEPTION

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was literally taken off a plane and shunned into a 20 foot long rotating hallway with only 2-3 weeks to get used to all the bruises he was going to receive during the shooting of this insanely brilliant fight scene. You can even tell from simply looking at this scene how much effort and pain Levitt endured in this scene while making you want to go on it as a ride in a theme park like Universal or Disney.
Definitely a whopper of a fight scene methinks ><

BEST VILLAIN - Lotso from TOY STORY 3

Probably the cutest evil character you're ever going to come across. Lotso had us awwing and cooing over him like he was a newborn baby UNTIL he kidnapped Woody and the gang, turned Buzz evil and just when we were convinced he would redeem himself, makes off in evil laughter. Ned Beatty had us wrapped around his finger with an amicable and heart wrenching back story that had us hugging our toys through tears, promising to never leave them again. Even his voice deceived us though it was pure evil.
Definately deserves my Best Villain award for 2010.

Best Kiss- Arthur and Ariadne in INCEPTION

There has been a serious lack of epic kisses in 2010, sure Dear John was a good one but nothing compared to The Notebook. The proposal had a good one too. Even Bella and Edwards kiss could have been worthy had Bella not ruined it with "Have sex with me before I leave you for a dog."
So I took a different approach to this award and went for a different kiss.
I came to love this kiss purely because of the boldness of it.
Ariadne, worried about Fischer's subconscious staring at them asks him what to do. He takes the chance to kiss her and when she states nothing has changed, he shrugs and says cheekily, "Well it was worth a shot."
It's just Arthur being Arthur, which simply makes the kiss epic in it's own bold way.

Funniest moment- Buzz; Spanish Mode in TOY STORY 3

There were a lot of funny moments in 2010, but nothing could surpass seeing Buzz prance about, speak Spanish and do the tango with Jessie The Cowgirl.
One of the funniest and most unexpected moments of 2010.

Saddest moment- Dobby's Death in HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1

Alright, so even if you didn't read the books there's no reason to deny you cried at Dobby the house elf's death.
Those last words, "Such a beautiful place, to be with friends," had even the most macho man puffy eyed. I think I can safely say on behalf of those who still have to see the movie- bring kleenex, and for those who have seen it RIP Dobby.

THE BEST/ MOST LIFE CHANGING FILM OF 2010- Inception

So I hope most of you, if not all of you agree with this choice. I have never come across a more thought provoking film and in the world of Hollywood where a one dimensional plot is pumped out onto our screen every single day, Inception is a breath of fresh air. It is the return and revival of art in it's saintlike form. Nolan has woken people up with this movie, leaving people with a shock; "Movies can be intelligent!"
"Chris Nolan's mindblowing film is the kind of movie Hollywood lets someone make roughly once every 30 years." - Film magazine.
This is an epic with a plot that shows it's 10 year development, characters that are 3D (unusual for thriller's these days), emotion, blood and sweat and a clever ending that leaves you thinking about it for the rest of your life. After seeing this twice and charging to the shops to buy it on dvd, it's safe to say it is my new favourite film and if it doesn't win any oscars I may as well give up on Hollywood for the next 30 years.

BEST ACTOR- Leonardo DiCaprio

Ok so I may be slightly biased here, but check out his line up for 2010 and onwards. These seem to be the second set of golden years after the "LeoMania" years for Leo. Shutter Island and Inception continued to display that Leo is still one of the best, most respectable actor out there and I have to say, he was one of the few who brought 2010 to life in cinema terms. Others possible for this - Colin Firth, Jesse Eisenberg

BEST ACTRESS- Mary Elizabeth Winsead

I can't say much about this award, I clearly wasn't moved by many actresses this year because I couldn't think of anyone when it came to it. I had to rely on my trustworthy friends opinion and who I got, I unfortunately did not see. Mary Elizabeth Winsead was apparently brilliant in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and has taken place of my friend's favourite actress of 2010. Having not seen the movie, I can only rely on her opinion and hope it is a good one!

Well there's my current list for movies
I'll compile my music list tomorrow :)
